The by-election for the federal electorate of Lyne will be held on Saturday 6 September 2008 the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) announced today.

The AEC Divisional Returning Officer for Lyne, Vicki Holmansaid that people living in the electorate of Lyne must ensure they are correctly enrolled to vote.

“All Australian citizens aged 18 years and over living in the Lyne electorate are eligible to vote in this by-election, as long as they are correctly enrolled to vote.

“If you’re not on the electoral roll, you must fill in an enrolment form immediately and return it to the AEC by 8pm, Monday 4 August 2008.

“If you’re already on the roll but recently moved and need to update your enrolment, you have until 8pm, Friday 8 August to get your completed enrolment form to the AEC,” she said.

Enrolment forms can be downloaded from www.aec.gov.au and are available at any Australia Post outlet or AEC office as well as at any Medicare, Centrelink, or Australian Tax Office.

Deadline for new enrolments:	8pm, Monday 4 August 2008
Electoral roll closes:	8pm, Friday 8 August 2008
Close of candidate nominations:	12 noon, Thursday 14 August 2008
Declaration of candidate nominations:	12 noon, Friday 15 August 2008
Election day:	Saturday 6 September 2008

Voting is compulsory for Australian citizens aged 18 years and over who are enrolled in the electorate of Lyne. For more information on enrolment or the by-election visit www.aec.gov.au or call the AEC on 13 23 26.

NOTE: The electoral roll will also close at 6pm, Monday 4 August for NSW residents to enrol to vote or update their existing enrolment details in readiness for the NSW local council elections on Saturday 13 September 2008.
