By-election guide in Mayo mailboxes

2 September 2008

An information guide on the Mayo by-election is being delivered to households throughout the Mayo electorate by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

The Divisional Returning Officer for Mayo, Mr Peter Verkerk, said the guide will explain to electors what they need to do to vote in the Mayo by-election on Saturday, 6 September 2008.

“It will show you where the 79 polling places will be on election day, how to correctly fill out the ballot paper and options for having an early vote if you can’t vote on election day,” he said.

The Mayo by-election guide is also available online on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au.

Election day for the federal division of Mayo House of Representatives by-election is Saturday, 6 September 2008.

Voting is compulsory for Australian citizens aged 18 years and over who are on the electoral roll in the electorate of Mayo.
