Public Inquiry: Western Australia’s Federal Electoral Redistribution Proposal
The Chairman of the augmented Electoral Commission, The Hon James Burchett QC, today announced the next stage in the public consultation for the proposed redistribution of Western Australia’s federal electoral boundaries.
The Redistribution Committee for Western Australia published its proposed redistribution on 1 August 2008. The period for lodging objections to the proposal ended on 29 August 2008, and the period for lodging comments on objections closed on 12 September 2008. The objections and comments on objections are available on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au.
As part of its consideration of the objections and comments on objections received, the augmented Electoral Commission will hold public inquiries to consider submissions that people or organisations may wish to make concerning the objections made. The augmented Electoral Commission is the body which will make the final determination of the boundaries and names of the 15 electoral divisions for Western Australia.
