Public Inquiry: Tasmanian Federal Electoral Redistribution Proposal

06 October 2008

The Chairman of the augmented Electoral Commission, The Hon James Burchett QC, today announced the next stage in the public consultation process for the proposed redistribution of Tasmania’s federal electoral boundaries.

The Redistribution Committee for Tasmania published its proposed redistribution on 22 August 2008. The period for lodging objections to the proposal ended on 19 September 2008, and the period for lodging comments on objections closed on 3 October 2008.

The objections are available on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au. Comments on objections received will be available on the AEC website from 6 October.

As part of its consideration of the objections, and comments on objections received, the augmented Electoral Commission will hold public inquiries to consider submissions that people or organisations may wish to make concerning the objections made.
